PhD in extragalactic astronomy at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA), a world-class center for astrophysics that is located in the beautiful Munich/Garching area in southern Bavaria (Germany). The successful applicant will work with Prof. Dr. Sherry Suyu on cosmology using gravitationally lensed supernovae.
MPA has direct access to the full suite of the European Southern Observatory facilities, and excellent computing facilities. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing and future imaging surveys including the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. The MPA and the neighboring institutes in Garching/Munich host a strong research program in astrophysics and provide a stimulating environment.
Applications for the PhD studentship are open to students from all countries. The appointment is expected to start in the spring of 2019 and requires the completion of a MSc degree.
