"Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Chemical Reaction Networks: From Cell Metabolism to Design Principles for Synthetic Life"
Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Chemical Reaction Networks: from Cell Metabolism to Design Principles for Synthetic Life

Living systems operate far from equilibrium, relying on complex networks of biochemical processes fueled by environmental energy. Despite the critical role of metabolic and chemical networks in evolution, growth, and signaling, how energy constraints shape their behaviors and emergent properties remains an open challenge.

This MIAPbP workshop brings together theorists and experimentalists from physics, biology, and synthetic life to explore the fundamental principles governing energy efficiency in biochemical systems. By bridging stochastic thermodynamics, metabolic network modeling, and synthetic biology, the event aims to uncover design principles for life-like systems and advance our understanding of how living organisms optimize limited energy resources.

Key topics include:
- Stochastic thermodynamics in biochemical networks
- Energy efficiency and robustness in cellular metabolism
- Non-equilibrium dynamics and emergent behaviors
- Design principles for synthetic life and artificial cells

The workshop follows the MIAPbP tradition of extended stays, fostering deep scientific interaction through seminars, collaborative work, and informal discussions. Participation is limited to around 40 per week, with office space, housing assistance, and partial cost reimbursement (€80/day for external participants).
