"Learning Data Science: An Introductory Block Course"
Two-week intensive block course in data science for students and researchers in physics and related fields. Morning lectures and afternoon exercises cover essential tools, workflows, and techniques for modern data analysis.

This ODSL/IMPRS block course is aimed at PhD and Master's students in physics or other natural sciences who want to develop a solid foundation in data science. The programme is also open to LMU students, MPI researchers, motivated bachelor's students, and postdocs. Using Python as the primary programming language, the course covers topics such as bash and terminal essentials, version control with git and GitHub, numpy, matplotlib, pandas, data formats, large datasets, and basic machine learning with scipy.
The course structure combines morning lectures focusing on intuition and fundamentals with interactive afternoon tutorials involving mini-projects and real data challenges. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets, and all programming work will be browser-based. Attendance can be for credit (6 SWS) or non-credit, with flexibility to join selected sessions.
