This interdisciplinary seminar series explores how concepts and methodologies from geosciences, planetary sciences, and astrophysics can be integrated to advance our understanding of planets within our solar system and the wide variety of exoplanets beyond it.
Equations of state (EoS) are widely used to interpolate and extrapolate the thermodynamic properties of solids and liquids across a broad range of pressure-temperature conditions, making them essential tools for modelling planetary interiors. In this talk, I will highlight how the assumptions and derivations underlying the most commonly used EoS formulations determine their applicability. I will further show that incorrect use can introduce biases and lead to an underestimation of uncertainties in models of planetary interiors.
