DataShare: Migration to Nextcloud

The MPCDF DataShare service will transition from ownCloud to Nextcloud, ensuring continued functionality while introducing important changes. Users must install the Nextcloud desktop and mobile clients; legacy ownCloud or branded DataShare clients will no longer work. Shares from expired accounts will become inaccessible, and expired accounts will be deleted after six months. Custom groups will be converted to Nextcloud Teams with updated role assignments.

Pending or rejected shares will not be migrated, and the old “v1” chunking API for large file uploads will be discontinued. Two-factor authentication via MPCDF Login will be mandatory for all users, supporting Single Sign-On with other MPCDF services like GitLab. Device-specific passwords can be created for third-party clients without MFA support.

During the migration weekend, the service will be unavailable, and some asynchronous tasks (e.g. notifications, remote calendar sync) may be delayed for several days. All existing data, shares, and calendars will be preserved. For assistance, contact the MPCDF Helpdesk or support@mpcdf.mpg.de
