An ESO community workshop on planetary formation and exoplanets in the ELT era, with presentations on ELT instruments, science cases, observation strategies and collaboration opportunities. Held November 17–21, 2025 at ESO Headquarters in Garching.

The ESO Community Workshop “Planetary Formation and Exoplanets in the ELT Era” (EXO-ELT) will take place from November 17–21, 2025 at ESO Headquarters, Garching.
The workshop will:

inform the community on the status, schedule and capabilities of ELT instruments (MORFEO/MICADO, HARMONI, METIS, MOSAIC, ANDES, PCS);
present the science cases, samples, observation and calibration strategies, and data analysis tools for planetary formation and exoplanet studies;
foster collaboration to harmonise tools, strategies and preparatory work within guaranteed and open time frameworks, including synergies with ground- and space-based missions (e.g. ALMA, Gaia, JWST, PLATO, ARIEL).

Key topics: Instrument status, disk evolution and chemistry, planetary formation, protoplanets, planet detection, system architectures, exoplanet atmospheres, bio-signatures, and cross-facility synergies.
