Star-forming galaxies at cosmic noon
Lookback studies have assembled a fairly complete census of galaxies over 85% of cosmic time and established that the bulk of stars, which today reside in massive ellipticals and spirals, formed rapidy at z~1-3, "cosmic noon". I will discuss observational progress and highlight recent results that provide insights into physical processes driving galaxy evolution, with a focus on spatially and spectrally resolved studies of the kinematics, gas, and star formation. I will outline some of the emerging questions and prospects to address them with new/future optical-to-mm instrumentation.
