Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) seeks to fill a Postdoctoral position within the LOFAR Epoch of Reionization collaboration, funded by the GIF Grant I-1569-303.5-2024 led by Benedetta Ciardi (MPA) and Saleem Zaroubi (The Open University of Israel, Israel).
The project will be focused on the development of theoretical tools to interpret the 21cm signal from the high-z intergalactic medium and their application to LOFAR data. The successful candidate will closely interact with other members of the LOFAR collaboration, as well as of the research group led by Benedetta Ciardi at MPA.
The initial term of employment is 2 years, starting in August 2025, and may be extended by 1 year, subject to performance and funds. As the position is jointly funded, for the first year the salary is paid at German civil service rates, and the position comes with health insurance and social benefits according to the regulations for public service. For the second year the successful candidate will receive a stipend which is equivalent to the take-home salary of the first year plus additional funding to cover health insurance. The position comes with 30 days holiday entitlement.
