Research interests:

• Stellar evolution of low- and intermediate-mass stars:

  • Low-mass stars: evolution, physics (mixing processes, nucleosynthesis)

  • intermediate-mass stars: Asymptotic Giant Branch (evolution, mixing, nucleosynthesis), Cepheids (convection, mass)

  • The Sun (interior structure, seismology, solar abundance problem)

  • Asteroseismology (giants, clusters, massive stars: models for seismic analysis; CoRoT, KEPLER, PLATO)

  • Clusters, globular and open (age, composition, sub-populations, laboratories for stellar structure theory)

  • Stellar ages (clusters, field stars, individual stars)

  • Dynamical and energetic events in stars (core helium flash, thermal pulses, convection, semiconvection, hydrostatic and -dynamic approach)

  • Evolution of Pop III stars (low-mass, composition, extremely metal-poor stars in the galactic halo)

• Population synthesis: stellar models as input, AGB stars: evolutionary state and colours

• AGB- and post-AGB-evolution (see above; and - how to produce good models for AGB-stars?)

Teaching, Lectures, Theses:

As a Privat-Dozent (lecturer) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (since 2001) I am teaching regularly for the astronomy master program, and have been supervising Diploma, Master, and PhD students.
