Talk Title: Young stars in Seyfert nuclei

Abstract: There is direct observational evidence that the nuclear regions of at least half of the nearby type 2 Seyferts contain a substantial amount of hot stars thus providing strong support to a starburst-AGN connection. The presence of hot stars is disclosed by strong high order Balmer absorption lines

Understanding the relative importance of the processess of nuclear/circumnuclear starformation and accretion into a SMBH is crucial for theories of formation and evolution of galaxies.

We have obtained high S/N spectra of the nearest and brightest Sy2 and some Sy1 nuclei for which we have detected strong absorption in the Balmer series, and compare them with our new high resolution (R=25,000) evolutionary synthesis models that cover a wide range of ages and metallicities. For the comparison we have developed new methods to estimate the mixing of stellar population. We will present the results of the new and also the traditional stellar population analysis methods.
