Talk Title: FIRES Survey: red near-infrared selected high-redshift galaxies
Abstract: The FIRES Survey (P.I. M. Franx) has accumulated 170h of ultra-deep near-infrared J, H, and Ks band imaging with the VLT ISAAC instrument of the HDF-South and a field around the z=0.83 cluster MS1054-03. Combined with very deep HST and FORS optical imaging, this provides 7-band photometry with excellent image quality that allows us to probe galaxy populations in their rest-frame optical emission out to z=4. I will present results of the MS1054-03 field, including follow-up KECK spectroscopy. I will emphasize on the K band-selected populations of red objects and discuss their nature, including stellar populations, star formation histories, and clustering properties.
