Talk Title: *Importance of complementing accurate stellar photometry with spectroscopy
Abstract: I will discuss the results of various recent observational programmes which have measured the spectroscopic properties (metallicity) of individual stars identified from stellar photometry in Colour-Magnitude Diagrams in galaxies of the Local Group.
