Welcome to the home page of

Friedrich (Fritz) Röpke

After spending a year as a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical astrophysics at the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (UC Lick Observatory) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) I'm now back at the Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik (MPA), Garching, Germany.

At present, I'm heading an Emmy Noether Research Group on modeling Type Ia supernova explosions at MPA.

Research Statement

My research interest is Computational and Theoretical Astrophysics. Primarily, I am concerned with modeling the physics of Type Ia supernovae which is in the focus of my Emmy Noether Research Group. The hydrodynamics of the explosion process is followed in large three-dimensional simulations. This research aims at gaining a sound understanding of the mechanism of these fascinating astrophysical objects and at providing a theoretical basis for their application as distance indicators in observational cosmology.
