The conference proceedings will be edited by A. Merloni, S. Nayakshin and R. Sunyaev, and will be published in the Springer-Verlag series "ESO Astrophysics Symposia".

Obtaining the LaTeX macros:

Contributions must be formatted with LaTeX using the macro package which is available from the ESO ftp host at:

     ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/esoproceedings/latex2e/

If you retrieve these files via a Web browser, please note that you need to use the browser's "Save As..." facility.

If you are not using a Web browser to obtain the files, please do the following:

  ftp ftp.eso.org
  Name: anonymous
  Password: your e-mail address
  cd /pub/esoproceedings/latex2e
  binary
  prompt
  mget *
  quit

Preparing your contribution:

The files 1readme.PDF (pdf format) and 1readme.doc (MS Word format) contain detailed instructions for authors.

The file author.tex contains a sample contribution, which can be used as a template for your own text. The files author.dvi and 2demo.ps are the .dvi and .ps files generated by running LaTeX and dvips on author.tex, and the file figure.eps is a sample figure.

Figures must be provided as PostScript files and should be incorporated in your contribution using the standard Latex2e "graphicx" package as demonstrated in the demo file author.tex.

Please use the following naming convention for your files: The Latex file of your text should be called myname.tex, where "myname" (all in lower-case) is the family name of the first author. Any figures should be named "mynameF1.ps" (or .eps), "mynameF2a.ps" etc, for figure 1, figure 2a, etc.

Please note the following important constraints:

Page limits:

The page limits are:

Review talks (45 minutes):   15 pages
Invited talks (35 minutes):   12 pages
Solicited talks (30 minutes):   10 pages
Contributed talks (20 minutes):   6 pages
Poster papers:   2 pages

Please try to observe these limits. These page limits _may be_ increased upwards slightly for particularly original and interesting contributions, provided that we find an extra source of money. It is anticipated that some editorial overview will be exercised and authors may be requested to make changes to their papers.

Colour illustrations:

Due to the high cost of printing colour plates, colour figures will not be accepted by default. Nevertheless, some colour illustrations will be accepted if there is a strong scientific justification, or if the authors are willing to cover the costs of the colour figures.

Submitting your contribution:

When you have verified that all your figures and tables appear in the text where you want them, and that the contribution does not exceed your page limit, then you are ready to deliver your files to us.

All the files required to generate your contribution (i.e. the LaTeX2e source file and all figures in encapsulated postscript format) should be combined in a single compressed (using gzip ONLY) .tar file,  preferably in uuencoded format.

You may communicate your file to us either by email or anonymous ftp.
