For its 50th Anniversary, the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics produced a brochure on both its history and current research (2008). You can download a pdf version of the brochure here.

CMB Comic - Riding the early waves
In 2009, the United Nations proclaimed the International Year of Astronomy (IYA), commemorating that 400 years ago the Italian physicist Galileo Galilei had used a telescope to study the sky for the first time and made a number of important discoveries about the Moon and the planets. Also in 1609 Johannes Kepler published his "Astronomia nova", an epoch-making book on our solar system. In remembrance of these milestones the MPA initiated a number of projects to make children and grown-ups interested in astrophysics and astronomy.
One activity, in particular was this comic about the Cosmic Mikrowave Background. A printed version of the comic an be obtained from the public outreach office. more

Poster Gallery

For the Open House Day, the MPA has produced a number of posters on general astrophysics topics, which are also available online. Please note that these posters are in German.

Videos

About the work at MPA several videos have been produced.

  • Vodcasts: For the International Year of Astronomy 2009 a series of video podcasts has been recorded.
  • Educational films: Also the MPG produced some videos intended for the eduaction of pupils in  2009.
  • Cosmic Cinema: Even before that the MPA produced a series about several different astronomical topics that you can find here. These are also availiable in English.
